Sometimes, we receive news or an event which seems to rip the very seams of our life as we know it. The usual response to this is either denial, extra grasping, or control, like we are trying to hold the shattering pieces of our life together.

While these reactions temporarily shield us from the shock, it wears us out in the long run and can even fry our nervous system, which takes much longer to recover from than the actual inciting incident.

When we don’t accept the stinging or even shattering reality before us, we tend to spend our energy bolting our insides against the waves of grief and pain, which compounds the pain and lodges it deeper into our tissues.
